Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine Section Links Training Programs Research Veterinary Extension Faculty Contact Us Animal Influenza Ecology and Epidemiology Research Program (AIEERP) This program is committed to preventing zoonotic disease outbreaks, epidemics or pandemics in all species, including humans and serving as a collaborative leader defining the interface of viral zoonoses and developing preventive strategies to protect animal and public health. Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a critical global health crisis driven by the widespread use of antimicrobial drugs that threatens both humans and animals. Ohio State's program is unique because it collaborates both internally and externally, including helping private practices establish Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs, integrating key principles for infection prevention and the judicious use of antimicrobials. Disease Ecology and Computer Modeling Laboratory (DECML) DECML seeks to improve understanding of the mechanisms driving the transmission and persistence of diseases in populations of animals and humans. Disease Prevention in Canine Group Settings This research team has developed important resources to help dog owners, canine group setting organizers and owners maximize benefits while reducing disease risks in dog shows, canine sporting events, parks, training and socialization, dog daycare and boarding facilities. One Welfare and Sustainability Center The mission of One Welfare and Sustainability Center (OWSC) is to become a center for species welfare and sustainability through research knowledge, training, outreach and expertise within a network of reptilian researchers and managers while serving other species of conservation concern. Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis is the most common neurologic disease seen in horses referred to Ohio State. In fact, more than 10% of equine cases presented to the Veterinary Medical Center at Ohio State have neurologic disease. Center for Food Animal Health (CFAH) The Center for Food Animal Health within the CFAES is housed in the Department of Animal Sciences and located on the CFAES Wooster campus. CFAH faculty are recognized as global leaders in using One Health approaches to solve critical and emerging problems associated with production limiting diseases of food animals, pathogens transmissible between animals and people (zoonoses), and food safety. Infectious Diseases Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory (IDMEL) Our mission is to explore how foodborne and nosocomial microbes can affect animal and human health. As a team of scientists, we seek to unravel the epidemiology and molecular mechanisms of foodborne and nosocomial pathogens, with emphasis on antimicrobial resistance, to improve health and well being of humans and animals. Laboratory Animal Medicine Program (LAM) and University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) The Laboratory Animal Medicine Program is administered by the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) and encompasses animals used for biomedical research throughout the institution. One Health Epidemiologic Research on Dairy Farms (One HERD) One Health epidemiologic research on dairy farms, focused on farm problems that impact animal and human health.
