Academic Programs
The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University offers a comprehensive range of educational and training opportunities. In addition to the four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program, the college offers advanced training programs, including the Comparative Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (MS and PhD), and a specialization in Veterinary Public Health, provided through a unique partnership with the College of Public Health. The college also provides numerous residency and internship programs in various veterinary specialties allowing for in-depth clinical training under supervision of board-certified faculty specialists. Externship programs are also available to provide students with clinical experience at private practices, zoos and partner institutions.
For veterinary students interested in research, the Veterinary Scholar Summer Research program offers mentored research experiences and infrastructure to develop critical thinking and technical abilities. This program allows students to get involved in hypothesis-driven research projects under faculty guidance.

Degree Programs
Residencies
The Ohio State University Departments of Veterinary Biosciences, Clinical Sciences and Preventive Medicine all provide post-DVM residency training programs with advanced and intensive training in the principles and practice of specialty veterinary medicine. The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine has many different specialty areas in which students may concentrate their residency program.
Internships
Internship programs allow licensed veterinarians to work closely with board-certified specialists and get extensive hands-on training in Ohio State's Veterinary Medical Center. The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center offers multiple house officer training positions, including internships.
Externships and Visiting Programs
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine offers a variety of clinical programs for visiting veterinary students, interns, residents, graduate students, faculty and practitioners.
The goal of the Externship Program is to provide students with in-depth exposure to specialty areas in veterinary medicine. Visting externs provide opportunities for collaboration, and sharing of ideas in teaching, service, and research. International visitors enhance our cultural diversity and encourage the development of professional relationships between Ohio State and the global veterinary community. Externships are for fourth-year veterinary students.
The goal of the Visiting Program is to provide visitors with in-depth exposure to specialty areas in veterinary medicine and provide academic growth for participants. In exchange, visitors enrich our clinical programs and research labs. Visitors provide opportunities for collaboration and sharing of ideas in teaching, clinics, and research. Visiting Programs are for veterinary students, residents, interns, as well as practitioners and faculty from other institutions.
Veterinary Scholar Summer Research Program
Tentative dates: May 13 - August 12, 2024
The primary goal of this program is to help veterinary students develop knowledge and skills related to research in comparative and veterinary medicine. The program provides mentorship and infrastructure to enable veterinary students to gain specific technical and conceptual abilities needed to perform hypothesis-driven research. This is accomplished through faculty-supervised research projects either at The Ohio State University or at affiliated collaborative institutions. By participating in this program, veterinary students can attain hands-on research experience under guidance from faculty mentors, developing core competencies to conduct rigorous scientific inquiry in their field.
Graduate Certificate in Global One Health
Theacademic graduate certificate in Global One Health will provide education and training to augment the scope and depth of the respective curricula for students pursuing an applicable graduate or professional degree by adding One Health courses and content via an academic graduate certificate program; and, enhance specialized expertise of working professionals who already hold an applicable graduate or professional degree by adding One Health courses and content via an academic graduate certificate program.
