Ohio State trustees approve endowed faculty positions for the College of Veterinary Medicine

The Ohio State trustees recently approved the reappointment of several endowed faculty positions and the appointment of new chairholders and professorships, illustrating the powerful partnership between faculty and philanthropists to define the areas of discovery that ensure the next generation of veterinarians will lead the field in veterinary medical education, research, outreach, patient care and the profession.
"These endowed positions are vital to our college's success, equipping faculty with the resources and support necessary to pursue groundbreaking research and innovative teaching methods. Their efforts strengthen our position as national leaders in animal and human health and directly impact our community, advancing global wellbeing through a One Health approach, " said Rustin Moore, DVM, PhD, DACVS, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State and Ruth Stanton Chair in Veterinary Medicine. "We are deeply grateful to our philanthropic supporters, whose contributions enable us to recruit and retain exceptionally talented faculty members and establish these endowed positions. These investments elevate our college’s reputation and ensure we remain at the leading edge of veterinary medicine," Moore said.
Appointment of new endowed chairs and professors:
- The Robert H. Rainier Endowed Chair in Industrial Veterinary Medicine and Research - Christine Petersen, DVM, PhD, associate dean for research and graduate studies
- The Trueman Chair in Equine Clinical Medicine and Surgery - Maureen Kelleher, DVM, DACVS, DACVSMR, CVA, associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
- Wolfe Associates Endowed Professorship in Canine Clinical and Comparative Medicine - Edward Cooper, VMD, MS, DACVECC, professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Section Head
Reappointed endowed chairs:
- Frank Stanton Endowed Chair in General Practice and Canine Health and Wellness - Roger Fingland, DVM, MS, MBA, DACVS, executive associate dean, professor, and executive director and chief medical officer of the veterinary health system
- The Teckie and Don Shackelford Chair in Canine Medicine - Laura Selmic, BVetMed (Hons.), MPH, DACVS-SA, DECVS, professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
Reappointed endowed professors:
- Excellence in Veterinary Care Diagnostic Imaging Professorship in the College of Veterinary Medicine - Eric Green, DVM, DACVR, professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and diagnostic imaging section head
- Stanton Youngberg Professorship of Veterinary Medicine - Prosper N. Boyaka, PhD, professor and chair in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences
- The Vernon L. Tharp Professorship in Food Animal Medicine - Andrew Niehaus, DVM, MS, DACVS, professor and vice chair of mixed animal faculty success in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
Reappointed designated professor:
- The Bud and Marilyn Jenne Designated Professor in Equine Clinical Sciences and Research - Teresa A. Burns, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
