June is Pride Month
Originally Published
June is Pride Month. We celebrate in honor of a brave group of people who, in June of 1969, decided they were tired of the police harassment and persecution of LGBTQ+ Americans. These brave people stood up to police brutality, indifference, and widespread hate in what is now famously known as the Stonewall uprising. It served as the tipping point for the LGBTG+ communities’ fight against discrimination. Pride Month is not about parades and festivals. It is about acknowledging that every individual has the right to be embraced and accepted. The LGBTQ+ community and their allies continue to fight against discrimination, injustice, and hate. We stand in solidarity with all members of our community as they embrace who they are and celebrate that fact.
“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.”—Audre Lorde.
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is uncompromising in our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We invite our OSU CVM community to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments that members of the LGBTQ+ community have achieved and their impact in the world.
