Importantly, this endowed position, like the others within the college, provides funding that covers salary, with the cost savings realized being used to support other positions within the college.
This appointment acknowledges Dr. Read's incredible work in overseeing the development and implementation of our new, first-of-its-kind competency-based veterinary education curriculum. Her efforts have emphasized early and frequent exposure to hands-on clinical, professional and communication skills training, competency-based assessments, and a focus on the spectrum of care approach to patient management. The overall goal being to graduate even more competent and confident day-one ready veterinarians ready to serve the state and its people and animals.
Furthermore, this appointment recognizes the international reputational excellence Dr. Read brings to the college through her expertise, publications, presentations, and service to the veterinary profession regarding curricular design and assessment, spectrum of care pedagogy, as well as teaching and learning. She is seen as one of the most experienced and effective veterinary academic leaders in this discipline across the globe. We are fortunate to have her as a committed faculty member and leader in the college, helping to ensure our students’ professional and career success.
When asked about the endowed title, Dr. Read credited the team aspect of the work she is being recognized for, saying, “Building a new professional curriculum is a really heavy lift that takes an entire college to bring it to life. I am very grateful to our faculty and staff for their tireless efforts, and I am really proud of all that we have achieved together. I look forward to watching the full bloom from the seeds we have planted”
