Dean Rustin M. Moore reappointed for additional five-year term

The Ohio State University has reappointed Rustin M. Moore, DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVS, and Ruth Stanton Chair in Veterinary Medicine as dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine to a second five-year term, extending his appointment to 2025. Moore assumed the role of the 11th dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine on Sept. 1, 2015. His reappointment is effective Jan. 1, 2021, to June 30, 2025.

Moore’s first term was marked by significant accomplishments, and under his leadership, the college's international reputation grew steadily. A top-five program in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for the past decade, the college was ranked third among U.S. veterinary colleges and eighth in the world in the 2019 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings. The program's reputation has contributed to a 75% increase in applications over the past three years, more than twice the increase seen nationally.

Having undertaken a substantial revision of its curriculum, the college is poised to graduate even more competent, confident and career-ready veterinarians, prepared to practice broadly across the spectrum of care and more successfully serve an economically diverse clientele while maintaining a financially sustainable business.

At the same time, the college has been recognized for its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, receiving the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award for four consecutive years. The college also has focused on access and affordability, limiting tuition increases and quadrupling annual philanthropic scholarship dollars awarded over the last five years.

During Dean Moore's first term, the advancement team's success in fundraising helped to grow the college's endowment by nearly $40M, a 150% increase, and to raise approximately $60 million of capital funds to modernize college teaching, clinical and research facilities.

Moore led the implementation of the college's ambitious Be The Model® strategic plan and, alongside his leadership team, is taking action to enhance the working and learning environment, the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff; compensation equity, and opportunities for professional and leadership development.
