Be The Model® Alumni Giving Veterinary Students

In their own words

Champions of student success

“My father, Dr. Matthew J. Eggert, was a 1937 graduate of Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1987, he established the Matthew J. Eggert Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine to ‘pay it forward’ in recognition of those who supported him throughout his education and career in both large and small animal private practice. After his passing in 1994, my husband and I committed to doubling the original endowment, and we are well on our way towards achieving, if not surpassing that goal.” — Lila (Eggert) Darling, daughter of Matthew J. Eggert, DVM ’37

“The opportunity to create an endowed scholarship that enables students to focus on what lies ahead rather than their financial burden is extremely rewarding and important. Many of my fellow Class of ‘86 friends and colleagues have also found great fulfillment in contributing to the success of the next generation of veterinarians through giving.”— Brian Cassell, DVM ’86

“Watching a student progress from pre-vet to veterinarian in just four years is the greatest reward for veterinary educators. It’s incredible to watch the evolution of how they think, write, communicate and carry themselves throughout each year of their DVM program. It is an honor and privilege to pay it forward by supporting scholarships for these future agents of change in our wonderful profession.” — N. Kent Ames, DVM ’74,  representative of the Class of 1974 Scholarship Committee
