Sue Knoblaugh, DVM, appointed as the Associate Dean for Faculty Success and Planning

Sue Knoblaugh, DVM, DACVP, has been appointed as the Associate Dean for Faculty Success and Planning. She transitioned into the role during the last part of 2024 with mentoring from Mary Jo Burkhard, DVM, PhD, DACVP, who previously held the position before retiring in January of 2025.

In this role, Knoblaugh will focus on faculty success by supporting the life cycle of faculty, from hiring to onboarding, professional development, and promotion.
Knoblaugh has been a faculty member and comparative pathologist at Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine for nine years. During this time, she has taken on leadership roles within the college, serving on many committees, and as Chair of the Admissions Committee. She has also held leadership positions within the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and participated in multiple leadership training programs. In addition, Knoblaugh will continue her contributions to the Comparative Pathology and Digital Imaging Shared Resource.

“I am very excited and honored for this leadership opportunity where I can support and work with my faculty colleagues to help them develop and advance their professional goals and is reflective of my interest and passion to help grow and support our people of the veterinary profession,” said Knoblaugh.

 

College welcomes Alecia Naugle, DVM, PhD, as Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine

 Alecia Naugle, DVM, PhD

Alecia Naugle, DVM ’98, PhD ’03, joined the College of Veterinary Medicine as Chair of the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine on January 1, 2025. Naugle brings a proven track record of executive leadership and more than two decades of public practice in veterinary preventive medicine to the department.

In her previous role as Associate Deputy Administrator/Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer for Veterinary Services in the Animal and Plant Health Inspection 
Service (APHIS) at the United Alecia Naugle, States Department of Agriculture DVM, PhD(USDA), she co-led a team of approximately 1800 employees, including more than 700 veterinarians, across the United States. Naugle provided executive-level leadership in a complex organizational environment by balancing long-term program goals with those of changing administrations while fostering employee engagement.

Throughout her career, Naugle has worked with livestock and poultry industries to improve the health of animals and the safety of their products to ensure marketability across the nation and the globe. She has led response efforts to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks and has collaborated on various One Health efforts and responses within USDA and across the Federal government.

“I am thrilled to be returning to Ohio State and look forward to sharing my experiences with veterinary and graduate students, providing leadership within the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, and interacting with Ohio’s livestock and poultry producers to continue to support animal agriculture,” says Naugle.

Welcoming alumni, friends and family home for our 2024 Homecoming

Homecoming Weekend 2024 was a memorable celebration! For the first time, alumni, family, and friends gathered in the new Ralph Rogan Equine Performance Evaluation Arena to reconnect, tour the college, engage with current students and participate in the annual town hall. The weekend culminated in our beloved game day tailgate, bringing the Buckeye spirit to life. The college proudly honored the 2024 Distinguished and Honorary Distinguished Alumni, awarded the 2024 Alumni Society Alumni Recognition Awards, and welcomed reunion classes back to campus. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special weekend!
