Class Scholarship Challenge Results -2021

After ten months of hard work, the alumni class scholarship challenge has come to an end. The winning class was announced at Homecoming on Friday, October 8, 2021. In total, the scholarship challenge raised $423,452 from 228 donors, 163 of whom gave their first gift to their class fund.

The Class of 1985 took first place in the scholarship challenge with a giving participation of 40%, and they received a fleece stadium blanket with the challenge logo and their class year on it.  The Class of 1985 has more than tripled the number of classmates who support that scholarship fund since its creation in 2015.

The Class of 1992 took second place in the challenge with a giving participation of 24%, they received an insulated tumbler with the scholarship challenge logo and CVM logo on it. After a final push from Dr. Karl Jandrey from the Class of 1992, 17 people from that class made a gift in the final two weeks of the challenge, giving them the push they needed to edge out the Class of 1986 for the second-place spot.

The Class of 1986 started their endowment fund this year, inspired a little by the competition and a lot by Dean Rustin Moore’s goal to eliminate a year of tuition for all students. They chose to focus less on the competition and instead work toward their fundraising goal, and as a result, they are 75% of the way to a fully endowed scholarship fund in just seven months (and still saw really strong participation!)

Our class gift scholarships represent the best of our alumni. When a student receives one of these scholarships, it impacts the student today and sets an example of how to become an engaged alumni. Set up a monthly gift to support your class scholarship all year.
