Research Day brings together community

Research Day showcases the research and scholarship accomplishments of our college community

Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine held its first in-person Advances in Veterinary Medicine Research Day since 2019 on April 5-6. Over 27 veterinary students and 53 postdocs, graduate students, residents and interns presented posters showcasing innovative and impactful research and highlighting scholarship accomplishments. The event brought the college community together to learn about exciting new knowledge and discoveries generated by our colleagues.

Travel grants were awarded to the best student poster presentations in each of the five areas of study: immunology and infectious diseases, molecular and cellular biology, structure and function, clinical research, and epidemiology and applied research. The awards help students fund their travel to a national or international scientific meeting to present their research.

In addition, two Ohio State faculty platform presenters, Dr. Jessica Quimby, associate professor of small animal internal medicine in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and Dr. Shan-Lu Liu, professor of virology in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences, and a keynote guest speaker Dr. Autumn Harris, assistant professor of small animal internal medicine at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, presented. Dr. Harris’s research interests include chronic kidney disease, proteinuria, renal ammonia metabolism and renal physiology. She presented “Sex Steroid Hormones and Renal Acid-Base Balance: What’s All the Fuss About?”

Research day concluded with the announcement of ten recipients of a $500 award that will be used to attend a scientific meeting of the recipient’s choice to present their research or assist with publication costs. Congratulations to the following:
