Transforming care with an equine-specific CT
To provide the best care for our equine patients, and remain a leader in the industry, it’s vital for Ohio State’s Galbreath Equine Center to acquire
a Qalibra CT with standing capability.
A Qalibra CT revolutionizes equine diagnostics, enabling high-resolution imaging of limbs, head and spine, allowing for imaging with and without general anesthesia and requiring minimal movement of patients. This ultimately reduces risk and uncertainty. Adding this new modality would enhance diagnostic precision for dental, orthopedic and neurological conditions while expanding treatment options for performance and companion horses alike. The system can also be used intra-operatively for CT-guided surgery, providing faster and more precise images than current technology and helping reduce anesthesia time. Patients will be able to receive a more comprehensive diagnostic experience and expanded clinical care at the Galbreath Equine Center, without the need for referrals to other facilities.
To remain at the forefront of equine care, the Galbreath Equine Center must continue advancing its technology. Adding a Qalibra CT aligns with industry standards, meets growing expectations from clients and referring DVMs and allows us to manage complex imaging cases on-site while enhancing the level of care we provide.

Traditional (non-standing) CT imaging often requires general anesthesia, which carries inherent risks, increases cost and limits access. A standing CT changes that future. With a Qalibra CT, Ohio State will be able to:
- Diagnose with precision: Deliver high-resolution, three-dimensional images that reveal injuries and disease earlier and more accurately than traditional imaging.
- Expanded imaging area: Capture more of the skeleton, specifically the axial skeleton, pelvis, and stifles.
- Reduced risk for patients: Perform advanced imaging while horses remain awake, minimizing anesthesia-related complications.
- Speed time to treatment: Enable faster, more confident clinical decisions — getting horses back to comfort, training and performance sooner.
- Advance education: Train the next generation of equine specialists by providing a robust and diverse case load that enhances training for equine residents, including the addition of an Equine Diagnostic Imaging Residency — only three such programs currently exist in the country.
- Expand innovation: Strengthen Ohio State’s leadership in equine patient care and research, and veterinary education, while remaining at the cutting edge of clinical care.
Advanced imaging in action
Join us in advancing what’s possible for horses.
We invite you to be a part of this critical next step in bringing best-in-class care to our equine patients. To continue excelling—to truly Be The Model®—in equine veterinary care, we aim to acquire a high-end Qalibra standing CT unit.
Adding this system to our Galbreath Equine Center will provide innovative solutions for diagnosing and treating issues in horses, reducing their stress and providing our team with more comprehensive insights into the bone and soft tissue anatomy. These precise diagnoses and targeted interventions will ultimately lead to better care.
