The purpose of this study is to characterize the most common type(s) of renal disease in the Greyhound breed. Anecdotally, this breed appears to be predisposed to chronic kidney disease characterized by protein loss in the urine (proteinuria); however, there are multiple causes of proteinuria ranging from hypertension (pre-renal proteinuria), to renal parenchymal injury (true renal proteinuria) to lower urinary tract disease (post-renal proteinuria). To definitively identify the region of renal injury, evaluation of renal tissue (e.g. biopsy or autopsy sample) is often required.
What qualifies my pet for this trial?
To participate in this clinical trial your dog must be a:
- Purebred greyhound with clinical evidence of renal disease or
- Purebred greyhound with normal renal function but related to a greyhound with clinical evidence of renal disease
What does enrolling in this clinical trial involve?
There are multiple types of samples that can be submitted for this study.
1) Whole blood and serum
2) Urine (collected either free catch or cystocentesis)
3) Renal tissue collected via biopsy from dogs in which renal biopsy is recommended by the veterinarian to diagnose kidney disease and develop a treatment plan

The tests being offered are routine diagnostics in the evaluation of kidney disease, and the client will receive the results of the clinical data and /or tissue analysis depending on the type of sample submitted.
