Veterinarians recommend vaccine for Eastern Equine Encephalitis
Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) has a 90 percent fatality rate for horses that contract this virus, which is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. As of Sunday, September 2, 2019, Dr. Tony Forshey, state veterinarian from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, said Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been diagnosed in three horses in northeast Ohio. Ohio State Equine Field Service veterinarian Dr. Jon Yardley recommends vaccinating against this disease.
