The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full- time clinical track faculty position in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery. This is a clinical emphasis position and candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service and clinical teaching. Specialty board certification (ACVS/ECVS) is required. The appointee will join the section of Small Animal Surgery within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, which is currently comprised of seven faculty, one clinical instructor, seven residents, and seven technicians. The orthopedic surgery service (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/orthopedic-surgery) is located within the Veterinary Medical Center (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc) with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including diagnostic imaging (3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT), independent canine physical rehabilitation service, and at the Veterinary Medical Center - Dublin (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc-dublin). Our goal is to augment and advance the clinical, research and teaching components of the small animal surgery program. Comprehensive renovation of both hospital sites, including all surgery suites, will be complete in Nov 2017.
Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 75% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. The Department and College are interested in developing our innovative surgical programs, including canine sports medicine, minimally invasive surgery, integrated trauma care, musculoskeletal oncology, and total joint arthroplasty. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, but clinical research, publications and other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged.
Teaching responsibilities will primarily include the clinical teaching of small animal orthopedic surgery and related topics to 4th year professional students, residents, and graduate students. The appointee is expected to foster a broad and diverse collective caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients, exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners, and the provision of excellent patient care. Faculty members are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development.
Faculty members are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College of Veterinary Medicine, including clinical trials
