The Ohio State University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a faculty position in Equine Surgery with emphasis on performance horse surgery. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in clinical service and teaching. The position may be either clinical track or tenure track. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty certification in surgery is preferred, but candidates who are completing residency training and pursuing specialty board certification will also be considered. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for applicants interested in a tenure track appointment.
The successful candidate will join a distinguished equine surgery program that includes four ACVS diplomates and three surgery residents, in addition to internal medicine, emergency/critical care, and ambulatory services (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/clinical-services-horse-owners). The Veterinary Medical Center has state-of-the-art facilities, including treadmill and CT, with 3T MRI anticipated in January 2015. The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and the Veterinary Medical Center support a large faculty of clinical specialists, educators, residents, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The Veterinary Medical Center is situated near the Wexner Medical Center which includes OSU Sports Medicine Center and the Department of Orthopaedics.
Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, labs, and clinical teaching of equine surgery to professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Clinical track candidates will be assigned up to 75% clinical responsibilities and will have time off clinics to pursue scholarly activity. Tenure track candidates will be assigned up to 50% clinical responsibilities, allowing time for independent and collaborative research, grant-writing, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Every faculty member is expected to participate in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development.
