The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduates competent and confident veterinarians with its unparalleled commitment to animal care rooted in theory, but perfected in practice. Our ambition is to Be The Model™ comprehensive college of veterinary medicine in the world, that’s why we’re evolving how we educate students with programs that ensure our students experience and thrive in clinical environments as early as possible.
All of our students have the chance to gain experience in a variety of specialty fields, including ophthalmology, orthopedics, dermatology, cardiology, emergency medicine and many others, while working with equine, farm animals and companion animals. We also provide robust research and public health opportunities and the potential for creating an individualized program focused on your unique area of interest.
Leading the Way
Our newest program, Building Preeminence in Veterinary General Practice Education, is devoted to preparing competent and confident general practice veterinarians. Through a combination of initiatives such as Outreach Medicine and Stanton Summer Externships, students get valuable hands-on clinical experience while learning to communicate and connect with people as diverse and unique as the animals treated.
With all the hands-on skills training, simulation and real-life experience a student obtains, they develop the acumen and clinical skills required to be a veterinarian that can provide a full spectrum of care no matter the pet, person or place.
Great veterinarians aren’t made in lecture halls. They are made by doing—by practicing and using their hands. That’s why, with the help of the Stanton Foundation, we’ve created the Building Preeminence Program. This first-of-its-kind program incorporates a continuum of clinical training opportunities for students to build and refine essential clinical and professional skills resulting in more competent and confident graduates.
The affordability of veterinary care can be a challenge for many clients. The Building Preeminence Program meets this challenge head on by training veterinary students to provide a continuum of evidence-based care that takes into account client expectations and financial limitations, preparing students to successfully serve an economically diverse clientele. Our goal is simple: That every graduating veterinarian has a wide spectrum of working knowledge about care options.
