Dr. Tony Buffington, professor of veterinary clinical sciences at Ohio State, and his research team have discovered a biomarker in cats and humans that may lead to better treatments for some chronic pain syndromes.
Shelter Outreach Services of Ohio Received a Donation
The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association raised $716 during Vet Olympics 2009 to benefit Shelter Outreach Services of Ohio. SOS of Ohio is a non-profit veterinary clinic that provides affordable, high-quality spay and neuter services to shelters and low-income families in Greater Columbus.

Ohio State Provost Joseph A. Alutto will be giving an important update regarding the search for the dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30.
The update will take place in the Veterinary Medical Center Auditorium. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Three new online continuing education courses will be made available in July
Tooth root abscesses in camelids
This course will cover basic knowledge of tooth root abscesses, one of the most common problems affecting llamas and alpacas. The course will be presented by Andrew Niehaus, DVM, MS and will be available July 8.
Each month, an equine faculty member will offer expertise on a new topic
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine's Galbreath Equine Center is proud to announce a new partnership with Hoof Beats magazine. Each month, an article in the harness racing magazine will feature an equine faculty member at the university who will discuss a topic relating to equine care.
A new course titled Emergency Approach to the Dyspneic Cat has been added to our online CE offerings. The course is designed to increase knowledge regarding the various disease processes which can result in dyspnea and respiratory distress in cats and their initial management.
Jennell Bigrigg, a third year DVM student, was awarded a scholarship by the Association for Women Veterinarians Foundation sponsored by Central Life Sciences. Bigrigg was selected by a four person committee from more than 97 applicants based on leadership potential, career path and influence in veterinary medicine both in and outside of school .
The alumni class updates, which provide current information on alumni who have graduated from the college, are now available online. Previously printed in the College of Veterinary Medicine's annual report and "The Speculum," the updates can be viewed here. The updates are ordered in an easy to use format, alphabetically by decade and class year.
