The Office of Career Management and Professional Development at the College of Veterinary Medicine is committed to assisting veterinary medicine students, alumni, and employers in all areas of career management and development, including

  • Resume, cover letter, and other employment documents review
  • Assisting employers in writing effective job postings
  • Providing access to the online Career Center & Job Posting Board
  • Developing effective strategies for students in pursuing their future career goals
  • Delivering key content in the Professional Development Core Curriculum

We accomplish this through personal career advising, professional development lectures, career events, employer outreach, and professional networking opportunities.

Amanda Fark is the Director of Career Management and Professional Development and joined the college in November 2012. Since Ohio State was the first College of Veterinary Medicine to implement an office dedicated solely to the career development of veterinary students, employers, and alumni, she was charged with leading and creating the Office. Amanda provides one-on-one career counseling for both students and alumni, develops resources, meets with employers and alumni, serves as the Team Leader for Professional Development, and hosts many career workshops and presentations throughout the year. Gena Grant is the Veterinary Career Counselor and joined the team in June 2019. As Career Counselor, she provides one-on-one career counseling for both students and alumni. Additionally, Gena manages the online job posting board and employer relations, coordinates events, and develops and manages marketing and online resources. Jenifer Owens has been with the College of Veterinary Medicine in the office of Career Management and Professional Development for four years.  She is the course coordinator for Professional Development providing support and creation of content for the Professional Development course. Jenifer is also the Communications Coordinator.  She is an IHC and FRANKS Certified Communicator. She brings this training to the Communications Program within the Professional Development Course redesigning the course to give students real life examples and interactions to prepare them for their next steps.
