On Saturday, May 4, the College of Veterinary Medicine will welcome the 137 new veterinarians into their chosen field at the annual Oath and Hooding ceremony. Faculty and alumni will also be recognized. This year's Distinguished Alumni Awards winners are: Dr. Tony Forshey, (DVM 1977), Dr. Kathy Smith (DVM 1978), and Dr. William D. Kerns (DVM 1975). Richard Bednarski

2013 AAVC Clinical Faculty Achievement Award

Dr. Richard Bednarski, professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, received the 2013 AAVC Clinical Faculty Achievement Award from the American College of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC). Each institution can nominate one faculty member annually for this award, which is given to a member of the AAVC who has achieved recognition for his or her efforts on behalf of veterinary medicine. Dr. Bednarski currently serves as the Head of the Anesthesiology and Pain Management Service. He previously served as the director of the Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center from 1993 to 2006. OSU DublinSatellite Companion Animal Hospital opens in Dublin

The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center at Dublin opened its doors on April 29, 2013. Located at 5020 Bradenton Avenue, this facility provides 24/7 emergency care and referral specialty services for companion animals. Read more.

"How Our Pets Can Contribute to Human Health"

Tony BuffingtonEveryone is welcome to attend an upcoming talk by Dr. Tony Buffington, professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, "How our pets can contribute to human health" on May 8 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Recreation and Physical Activities Center (RPAC), Meeting Room 2. Pets and people can contribute to each other's health under the right circumstances. Just as for marriages and families, the key to success is the quality of the relationship. Dr. Tony Buffington will describe some of the potential benefits (and risks) of pet ownership, and how to maximize the chances that the relationship will benefit the owner and the pet.
