The College of Veterinary Medicine hosted the second installment of a three-part multicultural advocacy series on Wednesday, March 30th. The title of the class was 8 Dumb Things Well Intentioned People Say that Widen the Diversity Gap, and was presented by Stephen Deaderick of The Ohio State University Multicultural Center.
The presentation was about common statements, usually made by people who are not trying to cause harm, and how those statements can impact others in harmful ways. Participants learned about intent and impact, and the importance of understanding that intent can not always be a measure of impact. The presentation was based on Dr. Maura Cullen's book, 35 Dumb Things Well-Intentioned People Say.
Stephen was clear and concise in communicating the meanings of these important topics, and did a wonderful job incorporating humorous videos to assist in shedding light on the seriousness of the topics as well. Thank you Stephen!
