What Does a Poultry Vet Actually Do? An Overview of the Poultry Industry, Current Trends, and Challenges

Dr. TJ Gaydos is an Ohio native and currently residing in Dallas, TX.  He developed his passion for animal husbandry while living on his parent's horse farm.  This desire to work with animals morphed into a broader passion for animal care as he became a certified farrier.  He simultaneously ran a horse shoeing business while attending Kent State University obtaining a bachelor of science in zoology.  TJ is a 2013 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  While in veterinary school his passion for animal care expanded outside of equines to include production animal agriculture.  He enjoys working at the intersection of animal health and human health.  He earned a master in avian medicine from the University of Georgia and is a diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.  Dr. Gaydos is working to improve intestinal health, animal welfare, production efficiency and reduce zoonotic diseases in his role as the head of Poultry Programs for Phileo Lesaffre Animal Care.
