The Blood Bank at the Veterinary Medical Center at Ohio State offers blood components for dogs, cats and camelids.
This growing service is supplying blood components to many veterinary clinics and emergency services countrywide. We provide canine packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, stored plasma, cryoprecipitate and cryo-poor plasma; feline packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and whole blood (type B); and camelid (llama and alpaca) plasma.
In order to receive blood components overnight, they must be ordered between 8am Monday and 4pm Thursday.

If you are coming to screen your dog or cat as a potential blood donor, we will ask you some questions about your pet. After that, you can either wait or leave your pet with us for a couple of hours. We will perform a physical exam and we will draw blood to do a variety of blood tests. Once we get the results back, we will contact you to let you know if your pet has qualified as a blood donor.
If your pet is scheduled for blood donation, you can drop him/her off in the morning and pick him/her up in the afternoon, or you can wait in the lobby for 1 to 3 hours.
Your pet will receive free vaccines, food, heartworm and flea preventive medication, and annual blood work as long as he/she is in the blood bank program. Learn more about donor eligibility and benefits.
There is no fee to donate blood.
Veterinarians or owners purchasing blood products will be expected to pay at the time of pick-up/delivery of those products.
