CVM The name of the college's Active Directory network domain.

IDP Institutiontal Data Policy - the University's policy on maintaining and protecting its information assets.
malware short for malicious software - software designed to secretly access a computer system without the owner's informed consent.
MCSS minimum computer security standards - the University security standard that applies to all computer and telecommunications devices, whether owned by the university, a university community member or a 3rd party organization, that connect to the university data network or support infrastructure either directly or indirectly.
name.n The unique internet user name (e.g. smith.1234) assigned by the University to every student, faculty and staff person.  Users must activitate their name.n to access many University systems such as BuckeyeLink, Carmen, etc.
oCIO Office of the Chief Information Officer - formerly known as OIT, Office of Information Technology - University's central technology organization responsible for campus-wide network infrastructure, Internet access, student email system, and shared systems.
phising a criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
SLA Service Level Agreement - a document like a contract that defines the responsibilities and expectations of all parties as it relates to the delivery of services.  See VIS Help Desk SLA.
VADDS The name of the laboratory information system (LIS) software used within the Veterinary Medical Center clinical laboratory.
Vetstar The name of the hospital information system (HIS) software used within the Veterinary Medical Center.
VPN virtual private network - a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. Instead of using a dedicated connection such as a leased line, a VPN uses "virtual" connections routed through the Internet from the organization's private network to a remote site or employee.
