Research Summary

  • Project title: Improving outcome in dogs with glomerular disease via pharmacodynamic-based dosing of enalapril.
    • Summary: Prospective clinical trial evaluating whether up-titration of enalapril dose to maximally reduce urine protein excretion in dogs with glomerular disease will improve survival time, slow rate of GFR decline, and decrease incidence of disease-associated complications, as compared to standard enalapril dose.
  • Project title: The World Small Animal Veterinary Association renal standardization study of proteinuric kidney disease in dogs.
    • Summary: Prospective study evaluating correlation between histologic type of glomerular disease in dogs with clinicopathologic findings, influence of treatment, outcome, and prognosis.
  • Project title: Utility of urine sediment examination for the diagnosis of systemic blastomycosis in dogs.
    • Summary: Prospective study comparing sensitivity of urine fungal culture, sediment examination, and urine antigen measurement for diagnosis of blastomycosis in dogs with cytologically-confirmed blastomycosis.
  • Project title: Modeling thionamide-induced autoantibody induction and drug-associated side-effects in a cat model.
    • Summary: Laboratory and retrospective study investigating whether thionamides induce loss of immunologic tolerance for host thyroperoxidase, with resultant development of myeloperoxidase-specific autoantibodies via epitope drift.
  • Project title: Diagnostic utility and concordance with final diagnosis of renal aspiration in dogs and cats.
    • Summary: Retrospective study in dogs and cats determining whether specific clinicopathologic or diagnostic imaging findings are associated with an increased likelihood of results of renal aspiration being concordant with final histopathologic or presumptive diagnosis.
