The Interactive Role of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus and Porcine Circovirus in the Prevalence of Zoonotic Pathogens and Multi-Drug Resistant Bacteria
This project is case-control epidemiological assessment of infectious disease dissemination in large production systems. Extensive diagnostics were completed to determine various risk factors and disease interaction. This will include relationships between the viral pathogens PRRS and PCV, and their potential interaction with pathogens that have zoonotic potential like Salmonella, E. coli, Cryptosporidium, and Influenza. In addition, the potential of PRRS and PCV infected animals to be more likely to harbor multi-drug resistant bacteria will be explored.
