The
Global Health Programs of OSU-CVM,
Asia-Pacific Centre for Veterinary Public Health (VPH-CAP),
Academic institutes in Eastern Africa and Northeastern Brazil established
a global consortium (“VPH-Biotech Global Consortium”) geared towards
sustainable institutional capacity building of the partner institutes in
the areas of zoonoses and food safety and security within the “One health”
model. The consortium recently launched the “
1st International Congress on Pathogens at the Human
Animal Interface: Impact, Needs and Limitations in Developing Countries”
which was held at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia, September 15-17, 2011 (
http://icophai2011.org). The VPH-Biotech consortium
has also decided to organize the “
2nd
International Congress on Pathogens at the Human Animal Interface” in
Brazil in September 2013. As part of this consortium, OSU
previously received an NIH Fogarty Global Infectious Diseases (GID)
research-training grant to build critical mass of scientists in East
Africa in the area of zoonotic foodborne pathogen epidemiology. For details see pdf.
