Service Learning Activities

Annually since 2007, students from OSU health science colleges, particularly Masters of Public Health/ Veterinary Public Health (MPH/ VPH), professional doctorate and interdisciplinary graduate program in global health from veterinary medicine, and the College of Public Health are traveling to Eastern Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia), Asia pacific (Thailand) and Northeastern Brazil  for summer projects and conducted investigations on zoonotic infectious diseases including milk quality, methicillin resistant staphylococci, toxoplasmosis, salmonellosis, tuberculosis, brucellosis and antimicrobial resistance in milk and dairy products. These activities were conducted by pairing OSU students with students from the respective regional partner institutes in Eastern Africa (Addis Ababa University, University of Nairobi, Sokoine University of Agriculture, Kenya Medical Research Institute), Asia Pacific (Chiang Mai University) and Northeastern Brazil (UFPB and UNIVASF).
