Greyhound Health and Wellness Program (GHWP)

The GHWP is primarily an outreach and teaching effort that incorporates basic elements of shelter medicine. The program is not funded by The Ohio State University, it operates based on donations from Greyhound owners and from research grants. Thanks to those donations, the GHWP is able to provide the following:

  • A membership-based website with up-to-date information on the most current research available in Greyhound medicine.
  • Consultation service for Greyhound owners and veterinarians via phone and e-mail
  • A quarterly newsletter.
  • A share price on spay/neuter/dental procedures for retired racing Greyhounds.
  • A list-serv for Owners, Veterinarians and breeders for the sighthound community.
  • An annual scientific conference on sighthound medicine.
  • Educational/extension programs for Greyhound owners and veterinarians.
  • Free chemotherapy for retired racer Greyhounds with cancer.
  • Financial assistance (through development funds and research grants) for Greyhound medical and surgical care at the OSU VMC.
  • The Greyhound blood, serum, plasma, DNA, and urine repository from healthy and sick Greyhounds.
