Weight training is a common type of strength training for developing the strength and size of skeletal muscles. It uses the force of gravity (in the form of weighted bars, dumbbells or weight stacks) to oppose the force generated by muscle through concentric or eccentric contraction. Weight training uses a variety of specialized equipment to target specific muscle groups and types of movement.
On October 28th, 2009, the One Health Challenge hosted a weight training course instructed by Dean Jean Sander and Courtney Wittich VME III. Dean Sander, before following her love of chickens into a career in veterinary medicine, competed competitively in bodybuilding competitions. The course was held for SCAVMA participants in the 2009 One Health Challenge and utilized the facilities at Ohio Krav Maga. Participants enjoyed a diverse and challenging workout as well as personalized instruction, weight training advice, and example work out routines.
The class was held at Ohio Krav Maga and Fitness in Hilliard, Ohio. The gym offers a variety of fitness, MMA, and other courses. The also provide FREE self defense classes for women on the first Saturday of every month. Please see their website for more details!
