Number of students reviewing:
Average student review (out of five):
The extern will rotate through the different departments of a busy emergency and referral center. They are required to attend all rounds including didactic lectures. The departments include, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, neurology, cardiology and surgery. Since there is an active internship program at the hospital, teaching occurs throughout the day. There is a chance to spend time at a sister hospital twenty miles away as well.
The extern will get hands on experience in managing a diverse small animal caseload, which includes outpatient emergencies and patients with complex problems that require diagnostic procedures or complex surgeries.
The senior faculty are all board certified individuals.
There is access to computer databases, and an up to date library. As stated above, attendance at all daily rounds and didactic lectures is required.
The student needs to keep a record of what they are learning during the time here. The original or a copy needs to be given to the supervisor at the end of the session for review and discussion
There are veterinarians in the practice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A boarded certified doctor is in the hospital six days a week, except Sunday.
There is a private bedroom and bathroom on the second floor.
