College of Veterinary Medicine

This externship is intended to provide the vet student with a hands-on experience on ornamental aquaculture, aquatic animal health and related regulatory activities - including pathogen surveillance. Student will assist in diagnostic laboratory and the collection of samples from local fish farms.

Student will work with veterinarians and non-veterinarians to learn about the ornamental aquaculture industry here in FL. Student is expected to assist with the clinical work-up of animals brought into the laboratory as well as the collection of field samples for regulatory purposes.

• Student is expected to show up for the externship on time and be on time (as designated) every day.
• There will be reading assignments and verbal "quizzing" for comprehension.
• Student is expected to be professional, attentive, honest and appropriately dressed each day.
• A written report has been requested at the conclusion of the experience.
