  • Clinical rotation in Avian and Zoological Medicine
  • Diagnosis and treatment of exotic species, including small mammals, birds, reptiles and wildlife species

Associate Veterinarians and special expertise available

  • All specialty services of the Teaching Hospital, including small and large animal medicine and surgery
  • 4 faculty members in Avian and Zoological medicine as well as 3 residents
  • Dr. Juergen Schumacher, Assoc. Prof., Service Chief (Clinical Supervisor of elective)

Educational Resources

  • Complete library of the College of Veterinary Medicine
  • Daily rounds
  • Student presentation at the end of rotation

Responsibilities

  • Receiving appointments
  • Diagnostics and treatment of exotic pets and wildlife
  • Medicine and surgery of exotic animals
  • Participate in after hours emergency duty

Student Supervision

  • 8 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Clinician always available for consultation and back-up (24 hours a day)
