The student will be expected to participate with preventative, medical and surgical procedures required to care for and help make adoptable the animals at the shelter (generally cats, dogs and occasional pocket pets).
Students do have access to journals, books and computer data if necessary.
The participating student will be involved with preventative care (exams, vaccinations) and overall preventative concerns at the shelter (housing, husbandry, etc.). They will also help with diagnostic and medical procedures, and anesthesia and surgeries (generally spays and neuters, but occasionally other surgeries as well).
6-7 hrs./day; 2-3 days/week - veterinary supervision. Unlimited hours (during open shelter hours) helping other staff members with various procedures (vaccinations, blood draws, HW tests, FELV/FIV tests, fecals, physical exams).
