Mixed animal general practice
Day to day typical general practice 70% small and 30% large animal; large predominantly dairy (70% bovine; 30% equine & small ruminants); small (75% canine; 25 % feline; few exotics). Appointments, surgery and farm calls.
4 fulltime and 3 part time doctors with Cornell, Ohio State, Michigan State, Purdue, Iowa State and Penn represented. No board certified but all do general surgery. 1 doctor good orthopedic with knee surgery; Dr. Hershberger will tackle just about any soft tissue surgery.
Good library of texts, VIN available. doctor meetings every 2-4 weeks.
- Farm calls, both routine and sick calls
- Follow doctor palpating
- Assist with treatments & surgeries as skill allows
- Small animal history taking in appointments
- Devise treatment plans
- Assist in surgery - all as skill allows & with doctor supervision
8-10 hours per day, 5 days per week plus being call for after hours emergencies if student so desires
