The department allows pathology externs to get excellent experience in veterinary pathology. Externs are able to interact with pathology residents. Necropsy and biopsy case material is varied and is drawn from the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Supplemental case material is available at the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
Eight faculty members are diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Pathology (ACVP).

Externs are expected to rotate through! the necropsy and biopsy services and work up cases from start to finish. They are also expected to attend a variety of weekly rounds and seminars.
