Medical and surgical referrals and emergencies comprise a large portion of the caseload, in addition to a large number of lameness exams, purchase exams, and other elective procedures. The practice performs approximately 250 to 300 surgeries per year, split almost equally between emergency and elective procedures. Emergency surgery cases include a large number of colic surgeries as well as lacerations, joint lavage/exploration, tendon sheath lavage/exploration, etc. Elective procedures include arthroscopy, cryptorchid castration, orthopedic procedures, and respiratory and urogenital surgeries. The practice’s equine clientele includes English and Western pleasure and performance horses, race horses, breeding stock, and pleasure horses. Facilities include an operating room with two induction/recovery stalls, a 10-stall hospital barn, 2-stall overflow barn, and 2-stall isolation unit. The practice is fully equipped with videogastroscopy, endoscopy, full radiography capabilities, and ultrasonography.
