St. Maarten Veterinary Clinic is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.
We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house digital x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas.
Interning here will be very hands on and in some cases very demanding. We can usually get upwards to 10 surgeries a week, mostly spays and neuters and we are frequently busy. There are some slow days but there is always something to do.
There are 4 other major clinics on the island with whom we have a good relationship with, and consult with when needed.
BSAVA Manuals, Surgery Textbooks, Internet.
Teaching proper doctor/client rapport, or the business side of running a clinic. Ultrasound techniques, Digital Radiography experience.
Idexx laboraties and Cornerstone Database
Help out in day to day care of animals, sometimes weekend rounds. Medicating animals, Prepping for Surgery (doing surgery on stray animals for Animal welfare(spays/neuters)). Running blood labs, prepping fecal slides, Skin scraping and staining. Dentals and Vaccinations.
It is also possible for the student to go with Dr. Garry Swanston to the near-by island of Statia to help out with his clinic there.
Monday to Friday 8 -12 and 2 -6 and Saturdays 8-12:30 and alternate full weekends
