College of Veterinary Medicine

I have been in private clinical practice since 1984. Since that time, I have mentored at least 25 new/recent graduates. We have provided externship opportunities to Western University and Iowa State students in the last 5 years. This has been an extremely positive experience for the students and our hospital.

2 staff doctors have completed internships prior to employment. One of the owners is a boarded surgeon (Dr. Robert Moore). As a multi-doctor practice, we have 3 doctors on duty M-F, and 2 doctors on weekend days.

We would expect the students to take part in all aspects of a busy small animal practice. This would involve assisting the doctors in exam rooms, subsequent case workup and discussion with input on differential diagnoses. The students are also expected to assist the technicians as needed in order to help solidify their technical skills in practice. Externs will also scrub in and assist with surgeries. Last, but not least, I expect a great attitude and desire to learn!

Access to veterinarians all day...every day. The hospital is open 7 days/week. My expectation is that the student be present for 5 days/week.
