Progressive Dairy Health Services (PDHS) is a 6 veterinarian, 100% dairy practice in the High Plains region of Eastern New Mexico / West Texas, USA. PDHS provides traditional veterinary services to large dairies (2000-7000 cows) including reproductive, surgery, obstetrics and calf management. We have 3 veterinarians that are English/Spanish bilingual and provide labor training including maternity, fresh cow/sick cow schools and milker training. Production medicine services include data analysis, treatment protocols, milk quality and preventative medicine programs. We have a microbiology lab staffed by 3 microbiologists and one veterinarian.
Externships are available to veterinary students who wish to gain exposure to dairy practice with a focus on large herd work. Typical work days usually involve a reproductive visit (4-5 hours) in the morning followed by emergency or production medicine work in the afternoons.
Education of veterinary students is focus of the practice with 3 veterinarians completing veterinary residency programs; three have Masters Degrees and one board certified by ACT (Bovine repro) and ABVP (Dairy Practice).
Externships are available throughout the year and are usually 2-4 weeks duration. A comfortable house is provided to the extern student. We will assist the extern student with transport to/from local airports. No stipend is offered.
We expect students to be motivated and enthusiastic.
