We would like to welcome you to our annual orientation for incoming Ohio State veterinary students being held on September 8, 9 and 12. Because beginning veterinary school is not merely another step in your academic journey, it is your entry into a particularly respected and honorable profession, attendance at all orientation activities is mandatory.
Much of the focus of these activities is on developing skills, ideas and attitudes that will assist you in making this transition to professional training, while having fun and getting to know each other. Most of you probably arrived at this point in your life through an innate drive to always "reach the top." Now that you are here, we are asking you to modify your view and see your peers as colleagues, not competitors. You are now working towards a common purpose of becoming the compassionate professional this vocation demands and deserves. It is imperative that you begin this journey with a common understanding of these goals.
September 8, activities for this first day of orientation will be held inside at the Recreational and Physical Activity Center (RPAC), located in the heart of campus just southeast of Ohio Stadium. On this day you will be assigned to work in groups of approximately 10 participants and one facilitator. The day is divided into two sections; the DiSC® Seminar and Ground Initiatives. Half of your classmates will start off the day in the DiSC® Seminar, while the other half of your classmates will participate in Ground Initiatives. After lunch, the groups reverse. So, if you started the day in the DiSC® seminar, you’ll end the day with Ground Initiatives, or if you started the day with Ground Initiatives, you’ll end the day in the DiSC® seminar.
Parking: You can park at Ohio Stadium in "C" lot or park at the College and walk over the footbridge to RPAC
September 9, is the convocation ceremony, which is an official "right of passage." The ceremony will be held at The Ohio State Union (first floor), 1739 North High Street. This event is open to all family members and/or significant others.
September 12, orientation will be held at Veterinary Medical Center Auditiorum, 1900 Coffey Road. This day will provide you information about Information Technology services and security, the Honor Code, the Student Health Program, mental health and academic resources, student organizations and activities, student government and more.
See you in September!
