Food animal individual medicine, surgery and lab experience primarily on dairies ranging in size from 65 to 1300 cows.
Student will assist on scheduled daily herd visits and sick cow calls as well as emergency calls. In house milk culturing techniques will be discussed along with farm record analysis. Student will have an opportunity to palpate cows with supervision and to treat sick cows and assist in on farm surgeries.
Dr. Plocher has completed Dairy Herd Health Certificate three year courses at both Michigan State University and The Ohio State University and has over 20 years of clinical experience. Dr. Kelleher is also in the practice and available for the student to interact with and has over 25 years of clinical experience and stories to go with them.
All materials from the Dairy Herd Health Certificate courses are available.
Shadow Dr. Plocher and be aware of the surroundings so that the student can discuss the medical and management issues on the dairies visited.
7-12 hours per day 6 days per week with possibility of arranging to go on after hours emergencies
