MedVet is the largest private practice specialty and emergency hospital in the Midwestern United States. We treat more than 60,000 dogs and cats every year within the tri-state area. MedVet Provides specialty practices for in-depth care and patient management as well as emergency services available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Departments include anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, emergency medicine, integrative medicine, internal medicine, medical oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, radiation oncology, radiology, rehabilitative services, and surgery.
Associate veterinarians and board-certified specialists are available in the departments listed above to provide an externship experience unique to the Senior student's interests. Rotation lengths are determined by the department and and doctors expected to be on-duty during the rotation.
There are 36 licensed veterinarians on staff, with 21 being board certified in the specialty departments.
Reference materials are available in the emergency and specialty departments. Students are encouraged to attend weekly department-specific rounds as well as weekly Tumor Rounds and bi-monthly Grand Rounds during their externship experience.
The Senior Student's responsibilities during their externship will be determined by the hosting department.
The Senior Student will have constant direct supervision by a veterinarian, licensed veterinary technician, or animal aide employed by MedVet.
