College of Veterinary Medicine

This will be a 2 week elective rotation in our mixed animal practice, which is primarily a beef and swine intensive practice. The student will gain hands on experience with the species of choice, in this case swine, ranging from diagnostics, sampling, herd visits, management and treatment consultation and sick calls.

The student will be expected to perform basic skills such as blood draw, necropsy and other sampling techniques as directed. The student will be expected to participate in clinical discussions (rounds) as well as offer input during cases. The student will be expected to ask questions!!! We see swine clients on a daily basis.

Student is expected to be at the practice by 7:45 am each day unless otherwise directed. Student will bring coveralls and boots to use in addition to those provided at the clinic. Student is expected to participate directly in all activities associated with the cases assigned to the supervising doctor.

The student will be supervised at all times by a clinician. We work between 40-80 hours per week depending on case load.
