To experience a "real" world general practice. Our practice sees clients from all economic groups with needs of all kinds. Visits include puppy/kitten first visits to annual exams to severely sick and injured pets. We perform many soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. We have the capability to perform in house chemistries, CBC, urinanalysis, T4, fecals, cytologies, FeLV/FIV and Heartworm tests. We have a film x-ray machine with an automatic processor. Ultrasounds are performed by a local mobile DVM with a speciality in internal medicine.

We are part owners in an after hour emergency center. Those pets requiring 24 hour care can be taken there for that service. Specialists are available in Jacksonville, about 35 miles away.

We have many subscriptions to veterinary journals. Periodically, we have continuing education meetings available to attend. The extern would be encouraged to attend.

Students would be expected to work up cases including full exam, list of differentials and how they would be proceed. This would be presented to one of our DVM and then the student and the DVM would talk to the client. The student would then perform needed tasks under the supervision of the DVM. The patient would then become the responsibility of the student with a DVM as supervisor. The student would also assist in surgery. If desired, the student could also spend some time at our emergency facility working with those DVMs.

The entire time the student is in the practice, a veterinarian would be there for supervision. The practice is open Monday - 7a to 8p; Tuesday - Friday - 7:30a to 6p and Saturdays 8a to 1p.
