Welcome to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. We are excited that you have expressed an
interest in preparing for a career in veterinary medicine at Ohio State.
It is never too early to start preparing for your future application to the
College of Veterinary Medicine for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
degree program. Becoming a
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine involves a program of academic preparation,
usually eight years after high school. Applicants typically complete
three to four years of undergraduate coursework and the majority earn
a bachelor's degree. The professional school is four years of
education in basic sciences and clinical procedures.
It is important to know that the
foundation for veterinary medicine is science. As you go through your high school program,
make sure you take not only a full course load, but one that will prepare you
for a rigorous college curriculum, especially in the sciences.
