Offering experience in all facets of general practice skills. Initial greeting of clients and patients, physical exam, history taking and recording. Evaluation of findings and implantation of care with supervision of the mentor. Offer the ability to hone practical skills in anesthesia, radiology, surgery, nursing care, dentistry and the ability to deal with financial restraints from clients and hospital.
Student will be paired each day with staff veterinarian or owner of practice. General practice with in house lab,digital x-rays, surgical suite with laser. Student will be introduced to clients as such and be asked to perform physical exam under direct supervision of staff veterinarian. Student will draw blood/urine- perform in house lab test on Idexx equuipment. student will assist in surgery, ride on a house call- in short experience every aspect of a general practice- including some management and manning phones at the front reception.
Exotic practice in house: rabbit, avian, reptile, pocket pets, ferrets, visiting cardiologist (board certified) weekly. Visiting ultrasound (weekly). Varied surgical procedures.
Any available on-line resources, close proximity to 3 referral practices, lunch and learn from drug companies. All current journals/books/access to lab equipment. 5 staff veterinarians to rely on for information and experience.
Will be introduced to clients as a student and to do SOAPS. Assist in, but not performing surgery. Gain knowledge and use of all lab equipment, digital x-ray and digital dent radiograph equipment. Will do daily patient exams and assessments on hospitalized patients..
Direct supervision by NJ licensed veterinarian at all times.
