If you choose not to work at any of the pre-approved sites, please find your own elective location and submit a request for approval through The College of Veterinary Medicine.

Our facility includes a full laboratory in house, radiology, surgery, ultrasound, surgical laser, endoscopy (flexible and rigid), full hospitalization capacity including intensive 24 hour care and emergency service, and full access to Ohio Wildlife Center.

Description Details Four weeks, full-time veterinary student externship in an exotic animal hospital. The externship program/preceptorship is structured by week to allow students the opportunity to not only work with and see exotic animal cases, but also to learn the different strategies necessary to effectively practice exotic animal medicine. Barberton Veterinary Clinic/ North Coast Bird and Exotic Specialties

Description This externship takes place at both the Barberton Veterinary Clinic, a busy 3 doctor small animal, bird and exotic animal clinic, and at North Coast Bird and Exotic Specialties, a 2 doctor exotics only specialty practice within Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital is a 24,000 square foot central hospital shared by more than 50 veterinarians from ten affiliated general practices, nine specialist practices and a 24-hour emergency service. Rotations may include medical rounds at the Akron Zoo as well.
