This preceptorship offers exposure to clinical zoo and aquarium veterinary practice at a large metropolitan zoo with extensive avian, reptilian, and ungulate collections. The student will work closely with the veterinary staff (includes 3 veterinarians, 4 veterinary technicians) and keeper staff, and will receive an introduction to husbandry, restraint/immobilization, basic medical procedure techniques, and necropsies of exotic animals, the unique aspects of veterinary management of animals in a zoo setting, and MedARKS. An onsite library will allow familiarity with zoo and exotic animal medical literature. The student will be responsible for local transportation, housing, and food.
