We have mentored previous veterinary students on a very limited basis. We routinely have veterinary technician externs from our local technician school almost year round. We are an AAHA accredited small animal practice in an urban area of Seattle.
We are a small animal AAHA accredited hospital in Seattle. We are a (nearly) paperless practice, and practice high quality medicine. We perform routine surgeries with a laser and have on-site laboratory for bloodwork, digital dental xrays and traditional xrays with automatic processor. Radiographs are routinely sent for review to board certified radiologists.
We have access to many specialty services in the area including 24 hour critical care, surgery specialists, oncologists, neurologists, oncologists, dental specialists, dermatologists and ophthalmologists. We also have mobile radiologists and cardiologists who will come to the practice to perform exams and give recommendations.
We use VIN extensively and have a full library of books. Both of our veterinarians are committed to continuing education and do 20 - 30 credits individually per year. All CE opportunities are posted. We also conduct veterinary pillars for the staff once a week for team continuing education. These include topics such as nutrition, vaccines, dermatology, diagnosing and treating ears, dental health, and parisitology. Occasionally, we will use on-line continuing education resources as well.
Observe veterinarians perform exams and interact with clients. Perform routine procedures and surgeries supervised directly by the veterinarian. There may be an opportunity to prepare and lead pillars for staff education. Assist with charting and routine day to day veterinary duties.
Students should have access to the veterinarians during the work day (8-10 hours per day, 5 days a week).
