Practice medicine one-on-one alongside an experienced
veterinarian as a “doctor-in-training” to develop your medical
and surgical skills
Learn the value of “normal” as you experience the typical
caseload of a small-animal practice
Gather a history, perform a complete physical examination
and develop a therapeutic plan for a minimum of four
medical cases under the watchful care of your licensed
mentor
Learn to increase client compliance so you can provide the
best treatment for the Pets in your care

1-2 Full time veterinarians per work day
Various veterinary textbooks
Veterinary Information Network (VIN)
Shadow mentor doctor during their work week
Actively participate in working up cases and developing treatment plans alongside their mentor doctor
Assist with anesthetic monitoring
Help perform diagnostics
Interpretation of bloodwork, radiographs and various other diagnostic tests
Each
student extern will shadow the mentor Doctor's schedule and should
expect to work 11-12 hour days, 4 days per week for a total of
approximately 45 hours per week.
